Grandma's Date Walnut Double Decker Bars

Grandma usually makes these bars over the holidays and they are so chewy and delicious!

Recipe Ingredients

Pastry Layer:
1 1/4 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine

Top Layer:
1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 8oz. pkg. chopped dates

Recipe Steps

1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2) To make the pastry layer, combine and blend to fine crumbs the flour, sugar and butter
3) Press into bottom of 9" greased pan
4) Bake for about 20 minutes until edges are lightly browned
5) Next prepare top layer and combine sugars eggs and vanilla
6) Beat well
7) Mix flour baking powder, salt nutmeg in separate bow and add to sugar mixture
8) Stir in walnuts and dates
9) Turn batter onto hot baked crust
10) Bake for 20 minutes longer
11) Remove from oven and cool in pan
12) Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cut into squares
13) Cut into squares

I loved the taste of the dates and nut in the bars. Keep adding more recipies!!!!!
